1st floor

William “Billy” Lee was the personal valet of George Washington for most of his life. William accompanied Washington regularly on surveying missions, battles, and visits to the House of Burgesses in Williamsburg. Upon Washington’s death, Lee was given a $30 pension, freedom to live at Mount Vernon, and was the only one of Washington’s 124 slaves freed outright.

Tucked into a quiet corner of the house, this charming room features a queen size, four poster bed evoking early American atmosphere and peaceful refuge. The William Lee Room offers a bed chamber with a fabric backdrop and large bathroom with a tub and shower.
