Who is the Hospital Arts Foundation?
  • A non-profit organization dedicated to softening the hospital environment with colorful paintings, wall murals & ceiling tiles.
  • Local connection Howard Busbee, W&M Professor – 15 years

Hospital Arts Foundation Mission
  • Comforting people in hospitals through art
  • Participants paint pre-drawn, color-coded designs at PaintFests
  • Donated to hospitals on behalf of the sponsors
    • Over 30,000 paintings
    • Over 600 hospitals in 165 countries

What is a Paintfest?
  • Participants work in teams on templates
  • Patients, families, hospital staff, sponsors and volunteers work together to create ceiling tiles, wall murals, and multiple canvas paintings
  • Possible Paintfest venues include:
    • Hospitals, Hotels, Continuing Care Residences, Convention Centers, Offices, Universities, Schools, Stadiums

Not An Artist?  No problem!
  • Paint by color, not by number on pre-drawn canvases
  • Kits come complete with templates, paint, brushes, plastic floor covering
  • Bringing the outside inside – softening the environment

Williamsburg Paintfest Opportunity
  • A regional multi-day, multi-venue, team-building and feel-good event involving Kiwanis, Rotary, the Williamsburg Art community and local businesses
  • Venues at Sentara, Riverside & Eastern State Hospitals, Williamsburg Landing, William & Mary
  • Other Paintfest venues possibilities include Walsingham Academy, Langley AFB, Ft. Eustis, etc.

PaintFest & Rotary – the legacy grows
  • Rotary District 7610 – hosting statewide event as part of conference this weekend
    • 80 Rotary sponsored students participating and bringing the art back to their international locations
  • Kyoto, Japan Rotary club Paintfest
  • As a result of Williamsburg effort, discuss Hospital Art and Rotary International as strategic partners for Paintfest around the world

Proceeds building local community funds
  • Exhibit community leadership within the region and community through a unique, feel-good, arts-oriented events
  • Support Williamsburg’s vision of an Arts & Culture destination
  • Building coffers of local community organizations
  • Involves and interests more people in the region with the local community

Adding iconic imagery to the mix
  • Jamestown/Yorktown Foundation and Colonial Williamsburg providing iconic imagery as possible paint templates

  • We also offer $2,500 venue sponsorships to aid in:
    • Selects a venue or group to sponsor
    • Supporting a in-kind venue, food and music for the event
    • Aid in the solicitation of sponsors, volunteers – perhaps employees and management
    • Provide or be a liaison resource
    • Aid in the media promotion

Next Steps
  • Finalize list of venues, including military bases and hospitals like VCU and the Massey Cancer Center
  • Determine the number of wall murals, ceiling tiles and multi-tile paintings needed
  • Develop and launch event website
  • Identify and obtain financial commitment from regional and local sponsors
  • Firm up itinerary and timing of each event
  • Form small advisory group to coordinate activities, track progress and finances
