  • Dear Reader,

This issue's theme is Excellence - The standards we set determine how high we go.

Excellence can be seen all around Williamsburg. The entire community is a buzz with activity, planning, new ideas, initiatives and events.

I attended Williamsburg's annual Tourism Forum on Thursday, February 24th. Co-hosted by the Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce, the Williamsburg Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Willia msburg Hotel/Motel Association, the forum brings together all of Williamsburg's tourism community. This event is a great time to learn about the plans of area attractions, community projects, our exciting Jamestown 2007 planning and much more.

Yorktown is about to unveil a newly renovated Riverwalk Landing waterfront area with shops, restaurants, sailing slips and community center. The grand opening is scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, May 28-30, 2005

Busch Gardens is introducing DarKastle, a new state-of-the-art ride unlike any other. Guests will board golden sleighs for a mesmerizing journey through the castle's ghostly chambers. A extensive promotional campaign will begin on March 7th.

Colonial Williamsburg is planning a fall Storytelling Festival as well as new museum exhibits and tavern ghost tours. Colonial Williamsburg has designated March as Women's History Month - Special programs on women's history will be presented at the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum throughout the month.

Also in March, the College of William and Mary hosts the 9th Annual Faculty Show. The show is an opportunity to view the many talents of the studio faculty of the Department of Art and Art History. On display is the pottery and stoneware of Marlene Jack and Brad McLemore, the still lifes and landscapes of Bill Barnes and Linda Carey, the figure studies and paintings of Lewis Cohen and Brian Kreydatus, the watercolors and digital images of Suzanne Demeo and Edwin Pease, and the wall pieces of Michael Gaynes.

Kingsmill is once again hosting the LPGA Michelob Ultra Open May 2-8, 2005. Order your tickets online.

One activity in particular is bringing the Williamsburg tourism community together. A new Williamsburg marketing campaign...GoWilliamsburg .com. GoWilliamsburg is the first of its kind marketing coordinated Williamsburg area marketing campaign. GoWilliamsburg represents all of the Williamsburg area attractions and will begin in March. The GoWilliamsburg campaign will be seen on television and print in Raleigh, Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia and New York. GoWilliamsburg background information is available on our site.

Williamsburg Daily Press Newspaper Features the Cedars B&B
Williamsburg's Daily Press featured the Cedars of Williamsburg Bed & Breakfast in their business section on February 8th.

We were honored by a feature story written by Daily Press Reporter April Taylor (pictured here) about the Cedars B&B. The story showcased the ongoing and unique experiences of owning and operating a Williamsburg bed and breakfast. Grace and I reflected with April many of the unique and romantic moments we share with our many guests...the kind of interaction that makes what we do so rewarding.

    January/February at the Cedars
St. Valentines Day and Presidents weekends saw many couples, young and old, reconnecting with a romantic getaway or proposal engagements. We sold a record number of romance and anniversary packages both weekends. Rose petals and chocolates, wine on ice, a romantic dinner and our framed picture at breakfast remains a winning combination for many of our guests.

We also were proud to host the wedding party for the Neighbors/Whitlock wedding on January 29th. A good time had by all.

    Extreme Makeover - B&B Style!!!
The Cedars proudly announces its Extreme Makeover promotion. Unlike the reality show, there is no surgery, pain or recovery. Just a wonderful Williamsburg experience for you and your friends that includes shopping, spas, afternoon teas, ballroom dancing and a guest appearance at the Rosie Rumpe's Regal Dumpe dinner theater. Your Williamsburg makeover experience will transform you and a friend from a colonial lass to a regal lady overnight. Look for promotion details and registration information by 9 March 2005.

    GoWilliamsburg Marketing Campaign
Last year faced with declining area visitations, the Williamsburg Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Williamsburg Hotel/Motel Association and the Williamsburg Chamber of Commerce sponsored a bill through the Virginia legislature to raise marketing funds for the Williamsburg area.

Upon legislative approval, the Williamsburg Area Destination Marketing Committee was formed aka WADM(a)C. Comprised of many high-ranking community leaders, they immediately set about to develop a strategy and create a promotional campaign with a deadline of March 2005.

They have achieved their objective and soon you will see Williamsburg in a new light! Stay tuned for more about GoWilliamsburg.
