Very Berry French Toast

1 loaf sliced Italian bread (1-inch thick)
6 eggs
4 Tablespoons granulated white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 ¼ cups of milk

Crunchy streusel fruit topping
¼ cup of margarine
½ cup white wheat flour
½ cup brown sugar
2 cup of blueberries, raspberries, or strawberries fresh or frozen ( if frozen, drain excess liquid)

Put bread slices in a greased 9 x13 inch pan.  Make sure bread slices cover as much of pan as possible: you may need to cut smaller pieces to fit in some of the open spaces between slices.

Beat eggs, sugar, vanilla and milk.  Pour egg mixture over the bread in pan.  Cover and refrigerate overnight.

Next morning, preheat oven to 375F while you finish the preparations.

Combine margarine, flour, and brown sugar until crumbly.  Sprinkle on bread mixture and bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.

Spread fruit on top of crunchy bread mixture and bake for 5 minutes.

Let it sit a few minutes, then cut into servings and sprinkle with sifted powdered sugar.

Serve with maple syrup.  Yields 12 to 15 servings.
