 Hurricane Isabel - September 18, 2003
Isabel, a category 2 hurricane, came ashore in northern North Carolina on Thursday, September 18th, 2003. By the time it reached Williamsburg, Virginia, it's punch had somewhat diminished but still had 100 mph winds. The Cedars fared well compared to many others in the area.
We lost several of our cedar trees. We've been telling guests we are now called the Cedar! We lost power for nearly nine days in the aftermath of the storm.
During the storm, several folks took refuge in the house with Grace & I...including the Eichelsdorfer's from Middletown, CT. They actually stayed an extra day and help with clean up and tree removal! They were great sports and very nice people to help.
We operated several days on a borrowed generator but the lights finally came on September 26th, minutes before our first weekend guests arrived.
The Cedars is fully operational. Thanks to everyone for your emails and support.
