Ironman Triathlon

16 hours, 30 minutes and 2 seconds.  2003 Lake Placid Ironman completed.

In the worst weather conditions in Lake Placid history, Bob finished his first Ironman event on July 27, 2003.  The 2.4 mile swim took 1:38, the 112 mile bike took 8:38 and the 26.1 mile run 5:53.  He started at 7:00 AM and finished at 11:30 PM.

A veteran of many shorter distance triathlons, Bob decided that this was the year.  He developed a website, Ironman4Charity, to raise money for charities on a per mile trained basis.  All contributions went directly to the choosen charities.

In May, Bob also pursuaded the Williamsburg community to pursue hosting an Ironman event.  Williamsburg made the short list of potential sites and is now in discussions for a full Ironman starting in the fall of 2006.  Details of the bid are available at rctubbs.com.  Stay tuned.
